Cisco Unified Communication Manager Upgrades
Long-Term Guidance
Since 2000, Universal’s clients have looked for guidance in designing, deploying and supporting Cisco’s Call Manager
(now known as Cisco Unified Communications Manager).
Universal has been a continual source of experience and reference for solid IPT installations. We have helped a range of customers
- from Fortune 500 clients, to smaller businesses meet their individual cost and convergence goals, implementing hundreds
of Call Manager clusters and over 15,000 handsets.
2009 – What is Changing?
Cisco Unified Communication Manager Version 4.2 is currently end of sale and will be end of engineering in May of 2009. The
end of engineering date concludes Cisco’s on-going enhancements and bug fixes to the product.
Although Cisco TAC will accept support requests, bug or feature issues will not be resolved with new a release or patch.
Explore, Discuss and Plan
We are advising clients to begin conversations now on how to evaluate and migrate to the current, v6.1 release of Communications Manager.
This newest version is Linux-based, offering compelling benefits versus the prior 4.x Windows-based system including:
- No monthly security updates as in Windows
- Easily upgrade/fallback function by a simple reboot
- Inherent Linux stability lowers support cost.
- Extended Mobility and Presence
- Support for dual-mode (Communications Manager and GSM)
